Thievery Corporation plots North American tour

- Thievery Corporation will hit the road this month to air out tracks from their new album, starting with concerts in Colorado this weekend. Rob Garza and Eric Hilton first met in Washington DC in 1995 at Eighteenth Street Lounge, a venue co-owned by Hilton, and Thievery Corporation was born out of their mutual interests in downtempo and lounge music. Since then the two artists have cultivated an international following for their lush productions on hit albums like The Mirror Conspiracy and The Cosmic Game, supplemented by expansive live shows (with a backing band that puts more than a dozen other musicians and vocalists on stage) and a growing focus on social activism. Earlier this summer, the duo released their sixth studio album Culture of Fear on ESL, their own label which takes its name from the lounge where Garza and Hilton originally met. In support of Culture of Fear, Thievery Corporation will head out on a tour of the continent, with most of the appearances taking place on the west coast. The trek starts this weekend with two Colorado concerts, including a night at Red Rocks Amphitheater. Next weekend, the band will play a hometown show in DC at Kastles Stadium. The tour then kicks into high gear in September, starting with concerts in Utah and another Colorado appearance before the band heads to Chicago to play two events as part of the city's North Coast Music Festival. From there, things move back west via San Diego (for two nights), Los Angeles and Las Vegas. A mid-week visit to the northwest will include the sole Canadian show in Portland, before the tour winds down with two shows in Oakland, California.
