  • It's emerged this morning that the Sony distribution centre in Enfield, north London, has been ravaged by fire, a direct result of the rioting that has gripped parts of London over the past three days. "We cannot determine the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage yet because it's not possible to enter the building," said Yoko Yasukochi, a spokeswoman at Sony, although these pictures via the BBC made for sobering viewing. In an email to their labels clients, distributor [PIAS] UK confirmed that they had been affected by the blaze, with the likelihood being that all stock had been lost. Labels distributed by [PIAS] include Young Turks, 4AD, Border Community, Brownswood, Buzzin Fly, Desolat, Sunday Best, Rekids, Renaissance, Soma, Soul Jazz, Southern Fried, Wall Of Sound and Warp. PIAS has issued the following statement: "Sony DADC have actioned their Business Continuity Plan and are back up and running from a new control room in Enfield. PIAS continue to work with them to minimise the impact on the business, a number one priority for all labels and clients. SonyDADC have identified a temporary distribution partner and it is envisaged that they will be in a position to pick, pack and ship orders in the course of next week." Update: Labels including Buzzin Fly, Rekids, Soma and Ninja Tune are reported to have lost virtually all of their stock in the blaze.
