- Alpha Pup will release the LA beatsmith's first album today.
LA-based producer Kone releases his first album, The Tractatus, today on Alpha Pup.
Termed "psychedelic gangster funk," Kone's style is one that's been emanating more and more from Los Angeles: instrumental hip-hop beats with a bit of oddball flare. The Tractatus is a rapid-fire collection of brief, sample-based pieces, which reportedly use everything from American jazz to Hungarian psych as source material. The album has an intellectual side too: it's named after one of the 20th century's most important philosophical texts, Wittgenstein's Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus. Soundbites that quote or reference philosophy are scattered across most of the tracks. By debuting on Alpha Pup, Kone joins the ranks of numerous like-minded artists, most notably Daedelus and Nosaj Thing.
