  • On October 2nd, Moodymann will headline the official opening party for a new Berlin club called S.K. Robinson, after which he will allegedly stop DJing for a while to focus on live performance. The length of his hiatus has not been specified, but Moodymann's booking agency says he will be "taking break from DJing in 2012" to work on his new live routine, details on which are still scarce. The party takes place on the Sunday night before Tag der Deutschen Einheit, or German Unity Day. The booking is a coup for S.K. Robinson, a Berlin club that has just finished construction. Located on the corner of Skalitzer and Manteuffelstraße in Kreuzberg, the venue sits above Soju Bar and Kimchi Princess. Its atmosphere is both elegant and rugged: second-hand furniture litters the edges of the dance floor, which has a view of the passing U-Bahn. According to the club's management, the venue takes its name from Sir Ken Robinson, an English author and speaker who famously claimed on TED Talks that education kills creativity. S.K. Robinson aims to offer more than just parties. Sweat Lodge Radio will broadcast with video from the club several days per week (in association with their magazine, SLIM), and the space will also host art exhibitions and "jazz jam sessions on Tuesdays." SLIM and the venue are planning a series of multimedia and mixed art exhibitions called SLIM Week, which will take place every three months, with the first running from December 6th through 12th.
