  • The 2012 Winter Music Conference will take place from March 16th through the 25th on Miami Beach. This year's event has expanded in both size and scope. For the first time in its 27-year history, it stretches across ten days instead of the usual five, which includes two weekends. Two parts of the program show the conference branching out into other industries: the opening weekend will feature a segment called Music Meets Fashion, and the closing weekend will introduce WMC Rocks, an "indie rock meets electronica" program. The rest of the week is standard WMC: DJ sets, live performances, panels, workshops and pool parties. The choice of dates notably coincides with this year's Ultra Music Festival, scheduled for March 23rd, 24th and 25th at an unnamed venue in downtown Miami. The two events had historically taken place on the same weekend until last year, when WMC announced an earlier-than-expected set of dates after Ultra and dozens of club promoters had already booked their events for the final weekend of August. No word yet on when the rest of this year's parties will take place, though based on years past it's likely they'll choose the same dates as Ultra. More details on both events, plus the rest of the parties around the city that week, will be revealed over the next few months.
