  • Mouse On Mars will be at The Barbican this Friday to perform "Paeanumnion," a collaboration with conductor André De Ridder and Cologne's musikFabrik orchestra. Now a duo made up of Jan St. Werner and Andi Toma, Mouse on Mars have been a fixture of left-field electronic music since the early '90s, and are due to release their first album in six years, Parastrophics, early next year on Monkeytown (details on that one are still forthcoming). "Paeanumnion" shows them using a live orchestra as source material for their own IDM-style sounds. The German duo designed the performance with De Ridder, a conductor who's also worked with Damon Albarn and These New Puritans, and debuted the project this past September in Cologne. Also billed is one of Mouse On Mars' most acclaimed contemporaries, Markus Popp, AKA Oval, whose next album, DNA, comes out the day of the performance on Shitkatapult. The night will also feature a performance of "Gesang der Jünglinge," a piece by one of Mouse on Mars' key influences, composer and electronic innovator Karlheinz Stockhausen.
