  • Soul Jazz Records will release a compilation in February called Voguing: Voguing and the House Ballroom Scene of New York City 1989-92. The two-disc package follows a photography book of the same name by Chantal Regnault, which is currently available through Soul jazz. Voguing documents the house ballroom culture that emerged in New York in the late '80s. The movement was part of the city's underground gay community, and centered around events ("balls") where teams (or "houses") of drag queens would compete through "voguing," a style of dance inspired by poses in Vogue Magazine and later made famous by Madonna's single, Vogue. The upcoming compilation collects tracks that defined the era's musical personality, including, to name a few, " Is It All Over My Face" by Loose Joints, "Love Hangover" by Diana Ross and "The Ha Song" by Masters At Work. Full details on the tracklist will be available in early 2012. Soul Jazz will release Voguing: Voguing and the House Ballroom Scene of New York City 1989-92 on February 3rd, 2012.
