- The Brooklyn dark wave duo's first full-length will come out in May on Mexican Summer.
Brooklyn duo Light Asylum are ready to release their self-titled debut album.
Light Asylum is Shannon Funchess and Bruno Coviello, a vocalist and producer (respectively) who play an updated version of dark wave, a style of music that's equal parts synthesizers and melodrama. Their most distinguishing detail is Funchess's androgynous and operatic voice, which has previously appeared on records by Ford & Lopatin, !!! and TV on the Radio. The duo first surfaced two years ago with the In Tension Tour EP, and have put out just two more records since, one of which is Shallow Tears, the lead single for their upcoming LP (you can stream that one right here). Like their past two releases, the album will come out on New York label Mexican Summer.
