  • The fifth annual Forward Festival will take place in Washington, DC from April 25th through the 29th. DC promoter 88 is once again in charge of programming for this year's event, which has been moved back a month (past editions were held in March). As usual, a wide range of electronic music will be on display throughout the week. Techno icon Jeff Mills will deliver an audio-visual live/DJ hybrid set, and fellow Detroit veterans Daniel Bell and Rick Wade will DJ as part of a series of back-to-back sessions. Atlanta artist Distal, whose debut album drops on Tectonic next month, is confirmed as well. Two label showcases have been confirmed so far. Jus-Ed's Underground Quality should provide a heavy dose of deep house, while San Francisco's Frite Nite camp brings the bass. The festival will take place at venues across the city, and while daytime workshops and art installations have always been a part of Forward, the organizers are promising a "much expanded educational component" in 2012. To that end, Jus-Ed and Rogue State (from the DC drum & bass imprint Translation Recordings) are already scheduled to take part in a panel on starting and running a label. The visual theme this year is "organic," and each day a new artist will display works inspired by "the five elements of the natural world": water, wood, metal, fire and earth. More details, including many more artist additions, will be announced in the coming weeks.
