  • Saturday nights at The Abercrombie Hotel will become Strange Fruit, a showcase for the country's top DJs, from May 26th. The Abercrombie has rapidly transformed in the past 12 months, becoming one of the city's regular venues for house, techno and disco. S.A.S.H relocated to the hotel at the start of this year and has been behind events there every Sunday since January, while outfits like Subsonic, Sydney Dance Party and Loosekaboose have all hosted events in either the pub's courtyard, main dancefloor or both. This new weekly Saturday night will be run by the Chemistry team who, since 2009, have hosted parties around the city with international guests like Adultnapper, Deepchild and Superpitcher. In this instance, the focus is entirely on Australian talent, with nearly two-dozen of the country's most experienced and respected jocks enlisted as residents on rotation. The venue will be fitted out with a Funktion One sound system and set times will be kept to a two-hour minimum. The launch party's lineup consists of Sydney veterans Simon Caldwell, Jamie Lloyd, Ben Korbel and Jordan Deck, all of whom are Strange Fruit's prospective regulars. Entry each week is free and the gig kicks off at 5:00 PM.
