- The Glaswegian producer and singer will release his second album through Planet Mu in September.
Rudi Zygadlo will drop Tragicomedies on September 18th.
The Glaswegian artist first appeared on Mike Paradinas' Planet Mu imprint 2010 with his debut album Great Western Laymen, which featured plenty of his own heavily-manipulated vocals and live instrumentation in a dubstep-leaning template. He's been relatively silent since then, with only the Achtung! EP on Pictures Music, but this year Zygadlo returns on Mu in earnest with an EP and an LP. Tragicomedies sees him abandoning the dubstep flirtations of Laymen, instead focusing on more abstract, less dance-oriented structures loaded with "treatments, jump cuts and edits."
The album is again heavy on Zygadlo's own vocals (and piano), and it's apparently deeply affected by his recent move to Berlin, where he had "a couple of life-changing experiences." However, Zygadlo insists that it's not a Berlin-influenced album, and in fact, it's more inspired by the classical music he listened to than techno or other contemporary Berlin music. There's reportedly a heavy lyrical influence from literature like Thomas Pynchon as well. The album consists of previously unreleased tracks, barring "Melpomene," which was released as a lead single at the beginning of July.
