- Amon Tobin, Dan Deacon, Pantha Du Prince and Beck all reinterpret the minimalist composer's work on the upcoming double-disc release.
A compilation of Philip Glass remixes, entitled Rework: Philip Glass Remixed, is due for release in October.
Glass is a widely celebrated New York composer from the same ilk as Steve Reich, Terry Riley and John Cage. For decades he's earned the title of "minimalist," though he prefers to call it "music with repetitive structures." According to Pitchfork, the upcoming collection was originally dreamt up by the rock artist Beck and Hector Castillo, a producer who cut his teeth at Glass's Looking Glass studios. Contributors range from European electronic artists like Pantha Du Prince to Beck himself. Other highlights include Amon Tobin, former Battles frontman Tyondai Braxton, ambient classical artist Jóhann Jóhannsson and indie electronic act Dan Deacon. (Oneohtrix Point Never allegedly turned in a remix and was rejected—you can hear that one here). The collection is timed to roughly coincide with Glass's 75th birthday.
