  • Detroit promoter Paxahau will celebrate 14 years of operation with Claude Von Stroke and a grip of local affiliates this weekend. Paxahau has been a fixture of the Motor City's electronic music scene since the late '90s. These days the group is best known for organizing Movement, the Memorial Day weekend event that has become one of the world's most respected electronic festivals. (You can learn more about that in our 2010 oral history feature on Movement.) For their 14th anniversary, Paxahau has recruited Claude Von Stroke—a Detroit-area native based in San Francisco, where he's one of the minds behind the widely-loved Dirtybird label—who in recent years has become a Movement favorite. He'll headline a free, all-ages event at New Center Park this Saturday that will run from 8:00 PM to midnight, also featuring local duo Ataxia, AKA Eric Hanna and Ted Krisko, the latter of whom helps run Paxahau's label arm D Records. Before then, this Thursday, three more D Records artists, Joshua Harrison and Paxahau DJs Chuck Flask and Keith Kemp, will provide an early start to the weekend with sets on the roof at Exodus Lounge. Then, after the Saturday night session at New Center Park, the celebration continues right down the block at Northern Lights Lounge with an unannounced resident warming up and a "very special guest DJ."
