  • Berlin-based producer Cosmin TRG will release his second album, Gordian, in April. The record arrives two years after Cosmin Nicolae's first full-length, Simulat. As with that LP, Gordian will see release on Modeselektor's 50 Weapons label. Nicolae is quoted in a press release as saying the new album references an ancient myth, but also "describes the very contemporary, impossible task of discerning between real and replicated, authentic and contrived." He adds: "Coping with facts, objects and bodies, the necessity of 'making it,' fear of failure, fear of 'not being happy' are today's topics, and Gordian is my attempt at an exploration of those issues." Reached by Resident Advisor, Nicolae expanded on this a bit: "On Gordian I tried to shape and distill my sound further, while sticking to a certain narrative and collection of references that make sense to me." He added: "It's saying different things to different people, and leaves it open to interpretation, which I find the most interesting. I also think that where Simulat was about me making a statement, Gordian is about me starting a conversation." After first appearing in 2007 with 12-inches on Hessle Audio, Subway and Audio Freaks (all produced as TRG), the Bucharest-born producer embarked on a path that saw him dabble in more house and techno-orientated material. To get an idea of what Gordian sounds like, head to Modeselektor's Soundcloud page to hear a snippet of the track "Noise Code." Tracklist 01. New Structures For Loving 02. Gordian 03.
