  • A new label out of Chicago called god particle is set to lift off this month. Sassmouth, a Chicago DJ well known as a resident at local institution Smart Bar and also a member of the city's Naughty Bad Fun Collective (she additionally spends some time in San Francisco, where she's a resident at As You Like It), is the mind behind the imprint. It draws its name and inspiration from the so-called "God particle." Formally named the Higgs boson and considered by many physicists to be one of the universe's most important building blocks, it was recently discovered by a massive particle accelerator located near Geneva, Switzerland. Ming-boggling scientific pursuits aside, the god particle label has a stated focus on "loopy, groove-oriented house and techno tracks that connect the dots for DJs during their sets"—in other words, the basic and essential ingredients of a DJ set. It'll be a limited-release, vinyl-only venture, with visual artist Justin Kohout handling the design work. The first god particle record, De Bus, will come from Olin, a Chicago DJ and producer who's previously appeared on Argot and Discovery Recordings. A remix from Sassmouth herself will round out the three-track EP. To celebrate the launch of the new label, NBFC will host an Industry Brunch this Sunday at The Continental in Chicago. Along with Sassmouth and Olin, the day party will feature sets from much-loved German house selector Move D, Karina from Ibiza's Zoo Project series and one more Windy City local, Greg K. Tickets to that party are available here on RA. Next Saturday, Karina, Sassmouth, Olin, Greg K and many others will play the 11-hour Industry Breakfast at TV Lounge in Detroit during Movement. Some copies of De Bus will be available for sale there, before the record is officially released early next month. Tracklist A1 De Bus A2 De Bus (Sassmouth's 52 Kedzie/California remix) B1 Lift god particle will release De Bus in early June, 2013.
