The Djoon Experience, a double-disc set featuring mixes from Joe Claussell and Black Coffee, will come out this week on BBE.
As the name implies, the compilation looks to bring the sound of Djoon to the world beyond its digs on the eastern side of Paris. Known for its soulful house bookings, the club has long sought to bring a little of New York to Parisian nightlife. With Claussell at the helm of The Djoon Experience's first disc, that connection is especially evident: he's one of the DJs behind Body & Soul, the influential New York party he spearheaded in with Danny Krivit and Francois K. According to the press release, Claussell recorded the mix at a small party he put together in a hotel room in Tokyo. The second disc, from South African house heavyweight (and Real Scenes: Johannesburg star) Black Coffee, shows how far that sound has traveled over the years.
