  • The Chosen Few House Music Picnic will once again take over Jackson Park on Chicago's South Side on Saturday, July 6th. In the city where house music was born, the Chosen Few Picnic is undeniably an institution: first started as a small-scale gathering in 1990, these days it draws a crowd that numbers in the tens of thousands. This will be the 23rd annual edition of the picnic, and the usual cast of seasoned selectors, AKA the Chosen Few DJs, will once again be on hand: Wayne Williams, Alan King, Jesse Saunders, Andre Hatchett, Tony Hatchett, Terry Hunter and Mike Dunn. Ron Trent is a featured guest this year, as is Jesse De La Peña from the acid jazz outfit Liquid Soul. While the main event will run all day that Saturday (the gates open at 6 AM), four more late-night parties have been scheduled for the long Independence Day weekend. The first on Thursday, July 4th will take place at The Shrine and be headlined by New York DJ Quentin Harris, with support from the Chosen Few DJs. The following night will see the the Windy City locals link up with the "Chosen Ones," a collection of veteran talent from Detroit including Al Ester, Rick Wilhite and DJ Minx. The party after the picnic itself, along with one final bash on Sunday the 7th, will feature even more sets from the Chosen Few DJs.
