- The New York outfit will release their debut full-length 30 years after forming.
Diagonal Records will release an album from Death Comet Crew called Ghost Among The Crew in December.
The New York act originally comprised Ike Yard members Stuart Argabright and Michael Diekmann, DJ High Priest (AKA Nick Taylor), Black Rain's Shinichi Shimokawa and the late Rammellzee. They put out two EPs of experimental electro-funk in the mid-'80s and then broke up. Ghost Among The Crew is the reformed group's first-ever album—it'll also be the first full-length on Diagonal, the label run by Powell and Jaime Williams. The title is a tribute to Rammellzee, who died in 2010.
In addition to Argabright, Diekmann, Shimokawa and Taylor, the album also features appearances from one-time Hercules & Love Affair singer Nomi Ruiz, Rapscallion and Carolyn "Honeychild" Coleman. According to a press release, Ghost Among The Crew is "steeped in the impulsive spirit of electric Miles [Davis] and the deep space romances of Sun Ra."
