- The Austrian artist's next solo album—his first in more than five years—will be released on Editions Mego in late April.
Austrian experimentalist Fennesz has revealed details of his next album, Bécs, due out on Editions Mego near the end of next month.
Bécs (the term is Hungarian for Vienna, and pronounced "baeetch") will be Christian Fennesz's first solo full-length since his 2008 album for Touch, Black Sea. But it'll actually serve as the follow-up to Endless Summer, his highly regarded 2001 album initially released on Editions Mego precursor Mego. That one has since been re-issued a few times—a 2006 Editions Mego version earned a perfect 5/5 rating here on RA.
The label describes Bécs as a return "to the more florid pop mechanisms as deployed on Endless Summer." It'll feature instrumental work from a handful of guests, with Cédric Stevens, AKA Acid Kirk, contributing on modular synthesizer to "Sav" (he also co-wrote that track). Three other artists who've previously collaborated with Fennesz will also be on hand: "Static Kings" has Werner Dafeldecker and Martin Brandlmayr on bass and drums, respectively, and the ten minute-long "Liminality" features drum work from Tony Buck.
Bécs will be made available on CD, vinyl and digital formats. Ahead of its release, you can try out a full stream of "The Liar" below.
