  • Vancouver's Fox Cabaret is starting a new weekly house series called Hotline. The Fox Cabaret, housed in a former porn theatre in East Vancouver's Mount Pleasant neighbourhood, is the latest endeavour from Arrival Agency—the group behind the revitalized Waldorf Hotel who drew headlines last year when they were forced to leave after the venue was sold to condo developers. The Fox opened earlier this spring and has hosted a mixture of live acts and dance events, including a residency from local crew ASL Singles Club. Now the club is ready to announce another residency, this time in partnership with Pacific Rhythm, an online record store managed in part by DJ Derek Dee. Hotline will go down every Friday, with the first happening on May 30th. Rising Detroit selector and Wild Oats associate Jay Daniel will headline that one, and the next week will feature Miami-based LIES man Greg Beato. On the 20th, Maxmillion Dunbar (as Max D) will host a showcase for his Future Times label featuring local artists and signees Kinetic Electronix and Hashman Deejay, and then on the 27th, they'll invite Chicago crate-digger Solson. To get an idea of the Hotline aesthetic, check out resident Derek Dee's recent turn on the Forbidden Planet radio show below.
