- "Is It All Over My Face" and "Tell You (Today)," a couple of Arthur Russell's most famous tunes, arrive in shops repressed and remastered next month.
A couple of famous Loose Joints 12-inches on West End Records are getting the reissue treatment this June.
Loose Joints was the duo of Arthur Russell and Steve D'Aquisto, a couple of New York underground music legends. D'Aquisto was one of the principles in the city's first record pool, along with Vince Aletti and Loft originator David Mancuso. Russell, on the other hand, wore many hats, with classics stretching from hit disco singles to deeply avant-garde, cello-led experiments. Whether or not casual listeners know Russell, they almost certainly know Loose Joints—the group's vocal hooks are among the most famous of the era.
"Is It All Over My Face" was the group's first and almost certainly biggest hit. The EP being reissued here was actually its second appearance on wax: the original B-side was replaced by a different version of the vocal sung by a male voice. "Tell You (Today)" is a somewhat rarer tune, with Joyce Bowden, who occasionally provided female counterpart to Russell's iconic voice on his solo material, on vocal duties. Both 12-inches have been remastered from the original tapes and are fully licensed.
