  • Justin Broadrick's Godflesh will release a new album on October 7th. After reuniting the band for a handful of live performances, metal pioneer Broadrick made headlines earlier this year when he announced Godflesh's formal return with the Decline & Fall EP, their first new music since 2001's Hymns. Emerging as Broadrick's chief project after the UK musician left Napalm Death in 1987, Godflesh proved massively influential over the course of the '90s, combining metal with industrial and other electronic influences. The group disintegrated in the early 2000s as Broadrick forged on with the more shoegaze-focused Jesu (he's also shown a healthy interest in dance music with other projects, notably Techno Animal). There's not a whole lot of information about A World Lit Only by Fire yet, but according to Pitchfork it'll come via their own Avalanche Recordings. They've offered up opener "New Dark Ages" as a taster, which you can stream below.
