  • Dave Huismans has announced a new 2562 album called The New Today. Due out October 20th, the record will arrive through Huismans's label, When In Doubt. It's the Dutchman's first 2562 material since 2012's Air Jordan EP: in the meantime he's put out a series of hard-hitting records and remixes under his other alias, A Made Up Sound. As with Air Jordan, which was built from field recordings made in Jordan, The New Today is inspired by travel—it was written during a six-week stay in New York in summer 2013, before being finished at Huismans's home studio in Utrecht. According to a press release, The New Today is a collage-like record that draws upon "early European synth experiments, new age tapes, musique concrète, krautrock, post-punk, obscure electro-pop and other largely forgotten and out-of-print music." It'll arrive on double-LP, CD and digital formats. The sleeve image is taken from microscopic camera footage filmed by Heleen Blanken, who collaborates with Huismans on live audio-visual shows. The album will be previewed at Amsterdam Dance Event on October 16th, with a live audio-visual showcase taking place at Pakhuis de Zwijger. You can listen to one of the album's tracks, "Utopia," via the SoundCloud player below.
