The Guggenheim hosts Holly Herndon

- The sound artist will play two shows in the museum's Tower Gallery this week.
- Holly Herndon has prepared two live shows and an installation for the Guggenheim, opening this Friday, December 5th. The multi-talented musician and new media artist will debut her project Expanding Intimacy—which includes both live concerts and a two-day installation—as part of the museum's Blood Makes Noise performance series. With a show that incorporates dance, costume and poetry, the project examines the relationship between electronics and intimacy, exploring technology's potential to enhance the depth of human connection rather than damage it. "All performances are technologically mediated," the artist's website explains, "however rather than representing a barrier, this mediation instead affords us a powerful articulation of intimate detail, augmented identity and new fantasies." The concerts will take place at 7 PM and 9:30 PM on Friday, December 5th, while the installation will be on view the 6th and 7th from 10 AM to 7:45 PM and from 10 AM to 5:45, respectively. Herndon is also scheduled to perform at the Eagle Rock Center for the Arts in LA on January 9th, as well as the Big Ears Festival in Knoxville March 27th through 29th and at Sonar Barcelona June 18th through 20th.
