  • An Opal Tapes showcase will take place in Chicago next Monday at The Burlington. Three artists will be on hand to represent the busy UK experimental imprint, which has put out a genre-defying array of more than fifty tapes since its launch in 2012. One is Body Boys, a shadowy producer responsible for an album—2013's atmospheric, sample-laden Growth Window—along with a couple other tracks on the label. Two of the other label affiliates are known as Windy City locals: COIN, real name Michael Vallera, who has two 2013 Opal Tapes releases to his name, Stilled and Inside Palace, and Michael DeMaio, who surfaced as WOMB on the digital compilation Cambiare, and who'll appear by way of his own name on an upcoming solo tape called Half Cross. While Body Boys, COIN and DeMaio play sets in the back room, Leja Hazer, a Chicago-based DJ who helps run the Hesperian Sound Division imprint, will be on the decks in the front room all night. You can check out the Opal Tapes BandCamp page for full streams of just about all the label's output, including Body Boys' Growth Window, COIN's Inside Palace, and DeMaio's track as WOMB, "Hard Lines".
