- The DC label will drop its first 2015 releases next month.
Future Times will release Japa Habilidoso's Funk Do Sindicalismo and Mosey's Tuff Times in April.
The former label of the month is run by Andrew Field-Pickering (AKA Max D of Beautiful Swimmers). Last year, the label firmed up an alliance with Vancouver's Mood Hut crew, releasing Hashman Deejay's debut album Sandopolis as well as a split between House Of Doors and Kinetic Electronix. It also released a 12-inch from Pickering's Dolo Percussion alias, a Protect-U album and a record from Jordan GCZ.
For 2015, the label's announced two new signings. First up is Japa Habilidoso, AKA Gabriel Guerra, the Brazilian producer who runs the CD-R focused 40% Foda / Maneirissimo label and usually produces under the name Guerrhina. The Japa Habilidoso cuts have a tough, punk-funk feel that Future Times refers to as a "relentless, almost abusive rhythm collage." The second EP is from a new artist named Mosey. The label calls the title track "Tuff Times" a "perfect nu-romantic piece of dance music," noting the EP is influenced by the obscure boogie-funk unearthed by PPU, Factory bands like Section 25 and the music of the Sega Genesis.
Check out previews of both EPs below.
