The Dutch festival will host a stage at Electric Zoo in NYC this year, with other event partnerships in the pipeline.
The first confirmed stop for the Dutch outfit is New York's Electric Zoo. They'll also host a stage at a West Coast event this year, though its identity has not been revealed just yet. Awakenings is one of techno's biggest brands, hosting several parties across Europe each year, with its main festival taking place annually near Amsterdam. We spoke with Awakenings founder Rocco Veenboer to find out more about the project:
You're taking Awakenings to North America for the first time in 2015. What inspired the decision? To keep up to date with Awakenings' stateside happenings, you can sign up to their mailing list.
Coming to North America in the early '90s and experiencing some visually very impressive Grateful Dead shows inspired me to start throwing my own house parties in Amsterdam, including not only great techno and house music but also using VJs, lasers and pyrotechnics. I'm very happy to finally have an opportunity to bring the Awakenings show to North America.
Tell us about what the Awakenings stage at Electric Zoo will look and sound like.
We are very excited about being in New York City for Electric Zoo. The look and feel of the stage will be 100 percent Awakenings. Expect some familiar Awakenings names on the lineup. The Friday will have a stronger techno sound and the Saturday will be more tech house.
What else have you got planned in the US in 2015 and beyond?
We will host an area at another great festival later this this year (on the West Coast). For 2016, we have big plans doing standalone events in multiple cities in North America.
