- The two veteran synth designers have collaborated on a new six-voice offering.
Dave Smith and Tom Oberheim have revealed a new collaborative synthesiser, the OB-6.
Matrixsynth reports that the six-voice analogue synth packs a sound engine based on Oberheim's archetypal SEM synths and recreates his signature ring modulator and phase shifter effects. "Tom and I have been friends and friendly competitors since the late 1970s," says Smith. "Back in the day, people were typically in either the Prophet or the Oberheim camp. Now, with the Prophet-6 out and doing so well, we thought it would be fun to combine our strengths and bring back Tom's classic polyphonic sound, too."
The OB-6 will join the likes of the Prophet-6 and Tempest in the Dave Smith Instruments arsenal.

Dave Smith Instruments will release the OB-6 for $2,999 later in March, 2016.
