  • Native Instruments has released a free software update that makes its Stems format accessible to anyone with Traktor software. Previously, Stems were only fully compatible with Native Instruments' S5, S8 and D2 controllers. The new update makes them function with all models, including the popular S4 and any mappable third-party device. In an effort to introduce Traktor users to the format, Native Instruments are giving away 65 Stem tracks for free and Beatport, Juno, Bleep, Traxsource, Wasabeat and whatpeopleplay will offer a 25% discount on all Stem tracks in their respective catalogues until February 29th. Stems, a mulitchannel audio format announced in August last year, divides tracks into four discrete parts to give DJs more scope for creative mixing. You can read about the team behind Native Instruments in Jordan Rothlein's recent profile of the Berlin-based music tech company.
