Amsterdam club Closure has ceased operations.
In a lengthy statement posted on Facebook last night, founders Joey Muijlwijk and Oliver Louw explain that financial troubles are to blame. They largely stem from a small fire on December 20th, during which one of the club's storage rooms was damaged. The club was ordered to undergo significant renovations and safety upgrades soon after, resulting in a lengthy construction and approval process. To further complicate things, Closure was the subject of several noise complaints in January, which required additional investment in noise isolation. Eventually, the owner's learnt that they would need to replace the club's existing electricity wiring system—a cost too high to absorb.
Closure launched in January 2015, and soon became one of Amsterdam's key venues. It hosted international DJs most weekends, with a wide-ranging booking policy centred around house and techno. Marco Shuttle, Raresh and DJ Sprinkes were among the guests due to perform at Closure in the coming weeks.
