Total Freedom has helped produce a compilation for the ninth Berlin Biennale.
Fade To Mind affiliate Ashland Mines is known for his confrontational DJ sets and eclectic remixing style. This isn't his first involvement with the art world; last year he designed an installation for the New Museum Triennial that focused on the "physical presence of a soundsystem" and the "violence of loud sound," as RA's Andrew Ryce explained.
The 9th Berlin Biennale tapped him as executive producer for a collaboration-focused compilation, which features work from close friends Nguzunguzu, Kelela and Fatima Al Qadiri. It also includes Elysia Crampton and Gang Gang Dance members Lizzie Bougatos and Brian Degraw in addition to art stars Adrian Piper, Ryan Trecartin and Iza Genzken. Three of the tracks are available now on the Biennale's website, and via the Vinyl Factory as 12-inch singles. There's no full tracklist yet.
