Príncipe presents Mambos Levis D'Outro Mundo compilation

- Lisbon label Príncipe has just dropped Mambos Levis D'Outro Mundo, its first full-length compilation. Príncipe is well-loved for its role in spreading the sounds of Lisbon's Afro-Portuguese dance music scene. (The crew are also responsible for their own popular party.) After putting out six records last year, the label had been less active in 2016, with just one release, DJ Marfox's Chapa Quente EP. Its next move is a big one: Mambos Levis D'Outro Mundo, a set of 23 tracks from Marfox and other affiliates including Niagara, DJ Nigga Fox, Nídia Minaj and Blacksea Não Maya. The compilation, Príncipe's 15th release, comes on CD and digital formats, with Márcio Matos, as usual, providing artwork. The only text accompanying its release is an excerpt of a 1973 interview with Amílcar Cabral, a Guinea-Bissauan and Cape Verdean anti-colonial leader who was assassinated that same year. A Príncipe label showcase, hosted by Warp (who put out a trio of EPs last year focused on Lisbon club music) and Just Jam, will take place at London's ICA next Thursday the 28th. Nídia Minaj and Blacksea Não Maya's DJ Noronha are confirmed, and a "special guest" will make their UK debut, pending visa approval. Tracklist 01.
