  • Pittsburgh Modular is releasing a new semi-modular Eurorack system. The Lifeforms SV-1 Blackbox is a portable desktop unit housed in a powered rack. Like other all-in-one Eurorack systems, the Blackbox comes pre-patched, allowing users to get stuck in without constructing a patch. A MIDI to CV convertor further aids those new to the modular domain, controlling the usual gate and CV signals as well as glide, CC and velocity, while an arpeggiator and LFO are also controllable with MIDI. The signal chain begins with two analogue oscillators, the first containing Pittsburgh's Blade Wave waveform. FM is possible and both oscillators can function as modulation sources at low frequency rates—they're also accompanied by suboctaves and a noise source. There's a state variable filter with outputs for band pass, high pass and low pass curves and the chain is rounded out by an ADSR, VCA and mixer. A sample and hold and a series of multiples can further deepen the modulation options. Watch the Lifeforms SV-1 Blackbox in action.
Pittsburgh Modular will release Lifeforms SV-1 Blackbox on August 12th, 2016 for $699.
