  • Brandt Brauer Frick will release their fourth LP, Joy, in late October. Joy is described as the German instrumental trio's first "vocalist-focused, song-centric" album. While guest vocals have appeared on prior Brandt Brauer Frick material—like their last full-length, 2013's Miami—Canadian singer and poet Beaver Sheppard was integral to the process of composing and recording this LP from the very beginning. A press release promises more stylistic diversity than the darker, funk-tinged Miami, and lyrics "[focused] on what the band members describe as 'post-religious' themes—such as struggling to find joy in times of uncertainty and instability." While Brandt Brauer Frick's previous three albums have come through !K7 (along with their 2014 DJ-Kicks mix), Joy will be released via Because Music. We got a taste of what it sounds like earlier this year with a record featuring LP cuts "Holy Night" and "Poor Magic," and Tom Trago on remix duties. The trio have also been at work on another major project: Gianni, a contemporary opera inspired by the life and death of fashion icon Gianni Versace. Directed by Martin Butler, it premieres in Berlin in October. Watch the video for "You Can Buy My Love."
