  • A new Recondite EP called Corvus is on the way through Ghostly International. Recondite, AKA German producer Lorenz Brunner, will be reconnecting with Ghostly three years after the Ann Arbor label released his second LP, Hinterland. In the interim he's kept busy pushing his deep, evocative brand of techno through labels like Acid Test, Hotflush, Innervisions and Life And Death, and a few months ago he put out a various-artists compilation on his label Plangent. Brunner describes Corvus, named after the family of birds that includes ravens and crows, as "a bit more serious" than his recent fare, and a press release says that among the inspirations for the record were Ryuichi Sakamoto and Alva Noto's soundtrack for the 2015 film The Revenant, and Swiss writer Max Frisch's 1957 novel Homo Faber. But the artist himself also offers this: "Melancholic doesn't necessarily mean dark. Music can be happy and moody." The five-track EP, to come on vinyl and digital formats, will feature a remix from Boston-based Brazilian experimental artist and Kathexis label boss Ricardo Donoso, who had a track issued on that recent Plangent compilation. Listen to the original version of "Capable."
