  • Thrill Jockey will release James Ginzburg and Paul Purgas' next Emptyset album, Borders, in January. In recent years Ginzburg and Purgas have had their hard-to-classify experiments in sound design issued through the former's Subtext label or through Raster-Noton. Borders, their fifth full-length and first since 2013's Recur, is their Thrill Jockey debut. We're told the album emphasizes a live approach, in contrast to the bulk of Emptyset's output to date. It features a couple instruments the two producers built themselves, "a six stringed zither-like instrument and a drum," together with their usual "analogue processes." Borders will come on vinyl, CD and digital formats. It looks to be one of the first moves in 2017 for Thrill Jockey, whose release schedule this year has included Matmos' RA-recommended Ultimate Care II LP. Tracklist 01. Body 02. Border 03. Descent 04. Across 05. Speak 06. Axis 07. Sight 08. Retrieve 09. Ascent 10. Ground 11. Dissolve Thrill Jockey will release Borders on January 27th, 2017.
