A full-length documentary on The Orb, Lunar Orbit, will premiere at London's Doc'n Roll Film Festival on November 11th.
The film's first London showing follows the release of two albums for Kompakt, October's COW / Chill Out, World! and 2015's Moonbuilding 2703 AD. Directed by Patrick Buchanan, Lunar Orbit includes exclusive footage from Alex Paterson and Thomas Fehlmann's sessions leading up to the latter album, and also looks back The Orb's early days, when Paterson and Jimmy Cauty came up with the chill-out style of DJing at the Land Of Oz events at London nightclub Heaven.
Buchanan has used unseen photos and video from the group's three decades in existence for Lunar Orbit, mixed in with interviews with Youth (Killing Joke), Guy Pratt (Pink Floyd), Mixmaster Morris and Matt Black (Coldcut). The documentary dwells on "the friendships which anchor the mothership," according to the official press release. It's screened at a few festivals over the spring and summer but you can watch the trailer now.
