  • Chicago's smartbar will host an event called For Spanky, benefiting the family of acid house pioneer Earl 'Spanky' Smith, on Thursday, December 8th. Smith was a co-founder of the hugely influential group Phuture, alongside DJ Pierre and Herb J. He passed away in September at the age of 51. smartbar's benefit will feature sets from three of his friends: Pierre, Farley Jackmaster Funk and Roy Davis Jr. While paying tribute to Smith, all profits will be given to his family to help with his post-mortem expenses.
