- The club says it worked closely with architecture firm OMA on a new venue, but it fell through "for reasons beyond our control."
London nightclub Ministry Of Sound has confirmed it tried to relocate to a new spot next door to its current Elephant & Castle home.
Some information on the proposed venue surfaced this week, with Dezeen publishing images from architecture firm OMA, who Ministry Of Sound commissioned in 2015. The plan was scrapped, however, due to delays in the area's redevelopment plan, which was being led by the Peabody housing association.
"We commissioned the designs and worked closely with OMA on this concept," Ministry Of Sound chairman Lohan Presencer told RA. "Unfortunately the Peabody scheme was delayed for reasons beyond our control. We will be announcing our long-term development plans for the club in the near future."
The OMA images show an adventurous new venue with moving walls. According to Dezeen, these walls "mechanically lift up and down," an innovation that "would allow the nightclub to easily change from open to closed, and to offer spaces that respond to different climate conditions."
