Coachella user data stolen after website hacked

- The website of Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival has been hacked in an attempt to steal user data. In an email sent to account holders yesterday (February 28th), Goldenvoice, the company behind Coachella, confirmed that "unauthorized third parties illegally gained access to the usernames, first and last names, shipping addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and dates of birth." Most users will have registered financial information with the site in order to buy tickets, though none of that was stolen, according to Goldenvoice's investigation. The hackers also didn't obtain any passwords. This isn't the first time this year that Coachella has been embroiled in controversy—in January, Philip Anschutz, who runs AEG, the parent company of Goldenvoice, was linked to anti-LGBTQ groups. He subsequently denied those claims. Coachella 2017 will take place across two consecutive weekends in April—14th through 16th and 21st through 23rd—at Empire Polo Club, featuring performances from Radiohead, Dixon, The Belleville Three, Ben UFO and more.
