  • Jlin's second album, Black Origami, will come out on Planet Mu in May. The Indiana footwork producer's last album, Dark Energy, landed in RA's top three LPs of 2015. She’s since followed up with a couple of EPs, both for Planet Mu: Free Fall and Dark Lotus, which just landed a couple of months ago. Her second LP Black Origami—due out in May—is inspired in part by her ongoing collaborations with Indian dancer and movement artist Avril Stormy Unger, whom she met and performed with at Unsound Festival in 2016. It includes one track with minimalist legend William Basinski ("Holy Child") and another one with Holly Herndon ("1%"), who also appeared on Dark Energy. "The simple definition of origami is the art of folding and constructing paper into a beautiful, yet complex design," Jlin says. "Composing music for me is like origami, only I'm replacing paper with sound. I chose to title the album Black Origami because like Dark Energy I still create from the beauty of darkness and blackness." Listen to "Nyakinyua Rise."
