  • Recently shuttered New York venue Shea Stadium has raised more than $70,000 after launching a Kickstarter campaign in a bid to reopen. The independent Brooklyn space announced its closure on March 9th in a Facebook post, citing local authority pressure. It launched the Kickstarter campaign yesterday (March 22nd), asking for $50,000 to cover a range of costs—including renovations, legal fees and bar permits—so that it could meet the standards required to reopen and operate legally. "This is just the first step to Shea's legalization, but it's a HUGE first step," said organisers in a recent Facebook post. "The project is still going and Shea still needs your help." Among other things, Shea Stadium has been home to Mister Saturday Night's Mister Sunday parties, which have been running at the venue since as far back as 2014.
