  • Philippe Hallais, AKA Low Jack, has linked up again with Manchester's Modern Love label, this time for an album project called An American Hero. The French producer has used his Low Jack alias to put out LPs through L.I.E.S. and In Paradisum, before debuting on Modern Love last year with the Lighthouse Stories LP. He's sticking to his given name for An American Hero, which Modern Love says sits "somewhere between tragedy and electronic futurism." An American Hero sees Hallais drawing inspiration from sports documentaries and athlete biopics produced by the US television channel ESPN—films that, as the label puts it, "[reduce] the life of these high-level athletes to a generic tale, transforming them into impersonators of their own lives through extreme use of editing, slow motion and musical themes." The producer aims to explore "this unusual portrayal of triviality and disaster, naivety and cynicism that make the real life and ordeals of the hero indistinguishable from their scripted form on TV." Accompanying the album, which will be out on double-vinyl, CD and digital formats in June, is a website, designed by CCC, that features 11 short films (one for each track on the LP) from Ethan Assouline.
