Toronto record digger Brandon Hocura has announced he'll split from the Invisible City Sound System to start up a new venture, Séance Centre.
As co-founder of Invisible City, Hocura and his partner Gary Abugan developed a reputation for sourcing rare records from around the world, selling them in-store and online and occasionally reissuing them via the Invisible City Editions label. The duo, who also DJ'd together regularly, repressed records like V.O.'s Mashisa, Oluko Imo's Praise-Jah and Beverly Glenn-Copeland's Copeland Keyboard Fantasies.
Hocura will leave Invisible City to Abugan and start anew with Séance Centre. He has three releases planned for the summer. First up is a reissue of Glenn-Copeland's ...Keyboard Fantasies..., which will presumably hold closer to the Canadian artist's 1986 original than last year's Invisible City edition. The press release says that one will feature "reconstructed glasswork design by Alan Briand and a limited cassette reissue."
Following that is Trespassing, a double-LP compiling works from Dutch artist Michel Banabila, including the 1983 LP Marilli, a cult object amongst collectors like Red Light Records and Music From Memory man Tako Reyenga. Finally, Hocura will release a three-decade retrospective from Mexican artist Eblen Macari, Sonido De Los Glaciares Y Galaxias. That one includes selections from the guitarist and ambient artist's venerated '80s releases such as Música Para Planetarios, as well rare and unreleased works.
