  • Shorelights, a group made up of DeepChord's Rod Modell, Walter Wasacz and Christopher McNamara, is about to debut on echospace [detroit]. Summer Cottage Soundscapes, an hour-long piece, was initially recorded earlier this year in the rain at an eastern Michigan campground on Lake Huron. (Modell has said the Great Lakes are a key inspiration on the project.) It also makes use of field recordings from the late producer—and Modell collaborator—Michael Mantra, and was optimized for playback at low volume. The label tells us it's "designed for escapism," with "quiet sonics [and] energies not experienced in today's busy metropolises." Modell is a longtime purveyor of ambient, dub techno and experimental music—he runs echospace [detroit] alongside Stephen Hitchell, who handled the design for Summer Cottage Soundscapes. Wasacz is a writer, DJ and founder of the audiovisual collective nospectacle, and McNamara, besides being connected to nospectacle, is a film and video artist who teaches at the University Of Michigan. The group has another release coming this fall via Subwax Bcn, details for which are still TBA. Tracklist 01. Summer Cottage Soundscapes echospace [detroit] will release Summer Cottage Soundscapes in mid-July, 2017.
