Björk has announced the first single from her as-yet-unnamed new album.
The Gate will hit the shelves on September 22nd as a limited-edition, single-sided 12-inch, released via One Little Indian, the label that's been working with the Icelandic artist since the early '90s. It follows recent news that her ninth studio album is on the way, though they're still keeping exact details under wraps.
"'The Gate' is essentially a love song," says Björk. "But I say 'love' in a more transcendent way. Vulnicura was about a very personal loss, and I think this new album is about a love that's even greater. It's about rediscovering love—but in a spiritual way, for lack of a better word."
