- They used field recordings from the island and collaborated with local musicians.
Island Of The Gods will release a joint album from Jonny Nash and Lindsay Todd in November.
Fauna Mapping consists mainly of found sounds and field recordings from the island of Bali, where they produced all 12 tracks. They added to that a variety of their own electronic and acoustic instruments, as well as clips from Balinese musicians they recorded. Nash, who runs the label Melody As Truth and plays in Gaussian Curve, and Todd, who runs Firecracker Recordings, aimed to "avoid the well-trodden cliches of the 'exotic,'" the label says. "Instead they attempt to achieve a personal interpretation of the flora, fauna and climate of the island."
Fauna Mapping is the second release in a series called Island Explorer, following Black Merlin's album Hipnotik Tradisi. On both occasions, Island Of The Gods has invited artists to visit Indonesia and create albums based on those experiences.
Nash already released a collaborative album this year—Passive Agressive with Suzanne Kraft.
