  • A man has been found guilty of throwing acid and injuring more than a dozen people in the East London nightclub Mangle E8. Earlier today, Arthur Collins, 25, was convicted of carrying out the attack, which took place at a Lovejuice Warehouse Party in the early hours of Monday, April 17th. Andre Phoenix, 21, who had been accused of taking part in the assault, was cleared of all charges at Wood Green Crown Court. The Metropolitan Police said that 22 people in total had been injured. 16 of those suffered serious burns from the substance, which, though not successfully identified, was ranked pH1, the most acidic on the pH scale. Three people sustained eye injuries, one of whom told the court the vision in one of his eyes remains blurry. Another victim suffered third-degree burns to the left side of his face, ear, neck and shoulder area. The incident took place following an altercation between Collins—who told the court he was there to celebrate the pregnancy of his then-girlfriend, the reality TV star Ferne McCann—and a group of men shortly before 1 AM. CCTV footage shows him spraying the bottle several times in their direction. He told the court that he had taken the liquid from the back pocket of one of the men in the group, and that he thought it was a date rape drug. He was arrested in Rushden, Northamptonshire on April 22nd. Collins was found guilty of five counts of grievous bodily harm with intent, and nine counts of actual bodily harm. He will be sentenced on December 19th.
