- The project challenges artists to make a track with just one musical implement.
A new label called One Instrument will launch next year, putting out music made with just a single instrument.
One Instrument aims to highlight ambient, techno and experimental sounds, and each artist involved is encouraged to be as creative as possible while working with one musical instrument of their choice. (We're told the preference is for hardware over VSTs—and modular synth users can only utilize one sound source module.)
The label's first release is a compilation called One Instrument Volume 1 that features experimental contrabass player and Subtext affiliate Yair Elazar Glotman (AKA Ketev), Korridor, Claudio PRC and Serena Butler. Silent Season duo Wanderwelle and Fjäder also contribute, along with In Bloom and Yhdessa, a collaboration between Aimée Portioli (a producer and composer who's put out an EP on Donato Dozzy and Neel's Spazio Disponibile imprint using the alias Grand River) and Enrica Falqui.
The compilation is due out first on vinyl at some point in February. A digital version will follow in March.
