  • Still Music, the Chicago label run by Jerome Derradji, is launching a cassette series for long-lost DJ mixes from the mid-late '80s. JACK, or Jack To The Lost Chicago Reels, is described as offering a window into "the heydays of Chicago House music." It's the result of Derradji acquiring more than 160 reel-to-reel tapes from a retiring Chicago record dealer, around 50 of which were DJ sets broadcast on local radio stations WGCI and WBMX. Four tapes, with remastered mixes that haven't been heard since they aired decades ago, will be released in mid-April. The first features a 1986 WBMX set from the late Frankie Knuckles. The other three include sessions from Steve "Silk" Hurley and a DJ named Devastating Daryl, along with a couple unattributed recordings. Looking ahead, Derradji aims to release plenty more music from his haul through Still Music, and not just radio mixes—he says the collection also includes rare and unreleased music dating from 1986 to 1992. Further details are still TBA.
